  Personal profile

Dr. Sinang Hongsanan, a Thai female, earned her Ph.D. from the Center of Excellence in Fungal Research at Mae Fah Luang University in 2016, an institution ranked as the world’s best in mycology by the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR). She continued her research at the same center as a researcher until 2018. From 2018 to 2022, she pursued postdoctoral research at the College of Life Science and Oceanography, Shenzhen University. She then worked as a researcher at the Center of Excellence in Microbial Diversity and Sustainable Utilization at Chiang Mai University. In December 2023, she began her role as a faculty member at the College of Life Sciences and Oceanography, Shenzhen University.

Dr. Sinang Hongsanan has been engaged in research on the biodiversity, phylogeny, species evolution, and utilization of fungi in Ascomycota. In particular, her work on using divergence times as a reference for higher-level fungal classification and her revision and reorganization of families and orders within Dothideomycetes has been especially noteworthy. To date, she has published 33 SCI papers as first or corresponding author, including in top mycology journals such as Fungal Diversity (IF 24.5) and Mycosphere (IF 16.4), which have been cited more than 10,000 times, with an H-index of 45. In 2024, she was awarded the 'Young IMA Award - Keisuke Tubaki Medal' by the International Mycological Association, presented in Maastricht, Netherlands. In 2023, she received the 'Outstanding Young Mycologist in Asia' award from the Asian Mycological Association, presented in South Korea. She was recognized as a Highly Cited Researcher by Clarivate Analytics in 2018 and was listed among the world's top 2% of scientists for four consecutive years from 2021 to 2024. So far, Dr. Hongsanan secured two National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) project and awarded with the Shenzhen Pengcheng Peacock Distinguished Position.

Dr. Hongsanan also serves as an editorial board member for international SCI journals such as Fungal Diversity, Mycosphere, IMA Fungus, Cryptogamie Mycologie, Phytotaxa, Asian Journal of Mycology, and CREAM Journal. Additionally, she is a guest editor for Frontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology, Frontiers in Fungal Biology, Frontiers in Microbiology, and the Journal of Fungi.
